Ankara-İstanbul YHT line is tested with Piri Reis Train which is one of the 5-6 test trains in the world. Piri Reis performs catenary-pantograph interaction, accelerometer vibration measurement and road geometry measurements starting at 60 kilometers per hour. Then the 80, 100, 120, 140 kilometer speed measurements are completed by reaching the 275 kilometer speed at the last hour. Thanks to the measurements, problems on the line are detected and resolved.
In other words, Piri Reis Train is taking the "MR" of the line. Piri Reis, which consists of measuring devices installed with an additional cost of 35 million lira on the YHT set worth 14 million lira, can perform 50 different measurements. The 523-kilometer Ankara-Eskişehir section of the 276-kilometer Ankara-Istanbul YHT line was put into service in 2009. The 247-kilometer section between Eskişehir and Istanbul, whose construction has been completed, will be ready for service after the signalization, road and catenary tests with the Piri Reis Train are completed, and the line will be opened in March.
Ankara-Istanbul travel time to 3
When the Ankara-Istanbul YHT line, which will be integrated with Marmaray when it is completed, will be put into service, the travel time between the two cities will decrease to 3 hours and the travel time between Ankara and Gebze will decrease to 2 hours 30 minutes. It is aimed to serve approximately 50 thousand passengers per day and 17 million passengers per year on the Ankara-Istanbul YHT line.
