The Asian Development Bank was the coordinator of the construction of the Tajikistan-Afghanistan-Turkmenistan railway line project. According to reports in the Tajik press, the Asian Development Bank decided to help the Dushanbe administration, which is looking for various transportation alternatives to expand abroad due to its geographical location. Underlining that the feasibility studies of the project will be carried out this year, the bank representative said, “1 million dollars will be transferred for the Tajikistan part of the project. The financial source for the construction of the project remains an important issue. There is not much distance in Tajik part. Therefore, not much money is needed. However, a significant amount of financial resources will be needed for the Afghanistan section. ” used expressions.

Representative Si Si Yu stated that there is no decision taken in this direction on the question whether the Asian Development Bank will be the main sponsor of this project and that it will be decided according to the bank's financial situation.

The foundation of the Tajikistan-Afghanistan-Turkmenistan railway line project was laid in Turkmenistan last year. The connection of Tajikistan to Turkmenistan through Afghanistan via a rail network will allow countries of the former Soviet Union to reach the railroad by not being dependent on transportation to its neighbor Uzbekistan.
