Investments in the İzmir Metro: Development of the Suburban System In the project, the railway infrastructure of the existing 80 km-long TCDD from Aliağa to Cumaovası was developed and a standard and high capacity urban rail system was established. Improvements have been made to the existing stations on the line, new stations for better operation of the system, highway underpasses and overpasses as well as pedestrian crossings and transfer points at necessary points have been constructed in accordance with the zoning plan decisions. In addition, workshops and storage areas were created at two different points for support services and vehicle storage needs of suburban transport. Development of Izmir Suburban System
Within the scope of the project, pedestrian overpasses and overpasses are constructed and completed at every point required to facilitate the crossing of citizens along the line.
These works were projected and tendered in stages. The construction works of all stages and the construction works of the Catenary System, Signaling System belonging to the parts removed during the construction and Communication Systems in the whole route have been completed. Starting from 30 August 2010 on the South Line between Alsancak and Cumaovası and starting from 05.12.2010 on the North Line to the Çiğli Station, passenger passenger transportation has been started. The entire system was put into operation on 31 January 2011.
A protocol was signed with TCDD General Directorate for the extension of the line from Cumaovası to Torbalı (Tepeköy) (30 km.), 30 stations (Tekeli, Pancar, Torbalı, Tepeköy, Develi, Kuşçuburun) and 6 road crossings on the 8-kilometer additional line and 1 pedestrian overpass had been tendered, site deliveries were made in September and October 2012 and the works started.
In the Light Rail System Project, the metro line between Üçyol and Ege University Hospital was extended from the station in front of Ege University Hospital to the Evka-3 junction and was put into service in March 2012.In addition, within the scope of the 2nd Phase of the Izmir Light Rail System (Üçyol-F.Altay), Üçyol ' Work continues to extend it from the station located in the city to Fahrettin Altay Square.
2 station (İzmirspor, Hatay Stations) of this line has been completed and trial voyages have been started at the end of 2012. The other 3 station is scheduled to be operational by the end of 2013.
In the Tram System Project, the tram system planned to be built in four regions in accordance with the İzmir Main Transportation Plan is Karşıyaka project tenders were made for the implementation projects of the regions. These works were included in the investment program by the decision of the Council of Ministers. Construction works of both works have started. Working with Buca region will be done by the relevant ministry.
