Hakan Kıran, architect of the Golden Horn Metro transition project: 85 percent of the Bosphorus is illegal. Hakan Kıran, the architect of the Golden Horn Metro transition project, which will be opened in the quarry, stated that 85 percent of the buildings on the Bosphorus are illegal and said, “A good silhouette work is necessary. Forgiveness should not come out either ”
After the opening of Marmaray, we talked with Hakan Kıran, the architect of the Haliç Metro Crossing Project, which is expected to breathe Istanbul traffic, both the project and other projects in Istanbul.
Your Halic Metro Transition Bridge project has been discussed very much. When will the opening be?
We will open it on the stove. Many young and old people spoke about the project. They said 'it could have been better' but did not suggest how it should be. We worked on the project for 8 years. We still draw. We designed the bridge design in the finest way. We looked at how we can use the material efficiently.
THERE WAS CONTAMINATED FIELD IN UNESCO
Well, you've worked so hard. Why was it so discussed?
I think the objections are not in good faith. There were debates over the silhouette of the Golden Horn and the Süleymaniye Mosque. We have taken a great responsibility and we are aware of it. We did not do this project to satisfy our ego.
UNESCO also got involved in the discussions ...
After the objection of UNESCO, the project stopped for 1 year. During this process, we went and talked to them. We encountered the contaminated area there. So, before we left, a negative image was created there. There was a semi-political landscape. We explained our project. We established a civilized relationship and worked with many scientists.
MAJOR CHANGES WERE NOT MADE
There were those who said, 'The project is not Hakan Kıran, but UNESCO's signature ...
No such thing. No major changes were made to the project. Its height is as we draw it. We just made some changes in the feet. We divided it into four instead of one leg. The floor of the Golden Horn is very slippery. That's why we widened the feet.
Illegal structures will be demolished in the Bosphorus. What is your opinion on this matter?
I did restorations there in the 1988s. It is said that 85 percent of the structures in the Bosphorus are illegal. At that time, when I was doing the restoration, the municipality would come and measure it every day. But the building would be erected to the side overnight and ignored. Therefore, it should be examined periodically and an account should be asked. Slums are not put up at night. I am also against the forgiveness of one being destroyed and the other being destroyed. After the silhouette study that will turn the Bosphorus into a certain format, it must be determined that they will collapse 100 percent. Of those who are on the run, the renovation should be left.
WHO CANNOT SEE THE SILHOUET FROM UNKAPANI, LOOK AT THE SOKULLU MOSQUE ON THE SIDE
The silhouette does not close when viewed from the bridge, but this is not the case in Unkapanı ...
Look, if we had made it lower and with many feet then it would never be visible when viewed from eye level. When viewed from the location of the Sokullu Mosque built by Mimar Sinan, next to the Unkapanı Bridge, it affects a little silhouette. That's why we brought our feet closer to the shore. But I ask those who raise this: that point they criticize is the point of shame. Because those who oppose our project for Mimar Sinan's Süleymaniye Mosque work should look back from the point they criticize. There is Sokullu Mosque and complex there. It is in very bad condition because of the bridge. Restoration is being done.
YOU NEED TO SEE THE BIG OFFICIAL
I wonder your thoughts about 3rd Airport, 3rd Bridge and Canal Istanbul?
These are all projects to the north. To say that there are no bridges, airports and new cities, I have to see the big picture. Do you need Istanbul in the northern region, what if projects are done here? These are of course considered.
I'm NOT COOKED
Have you had any regrets?
No, I never regretted it. At first, I was drawn to me. I was channeled here when the most work was done. Neither I made the decision for a bridge, nor this period… In fact, it was decided to build a bridge here in 1985. Our project was approved in 2005. Since then, all kinds of permissions have been obtained from the protection boards. Nobody said that a bridge should not be built here.
SEMINAR 360 TERMINAL SEA
Will it be the only station in the middle of the bridge?
Yeah. We could not build the station on both sides. One side is the historical district… If it was built on the other side, it would be very close to the previous station. This station will be a view terrace that will see the historical peninsula from a 360-degree angle. It will become an important place in terms of tourism.
THE LARGEST PROJECTS GALATA AND TATLICI
What do you think is Istanbul's ugliest project?
Galata Bridge and Tatlıcı building are the first things that come to my mind. We used to call it Gökkafes, but we saw buildings made much worse than that, they spoiled the silhouette of Istanbul.
HALİÇ BRIDGE WITH FIGURES
Taksim metro will be moved to Yenikapı.
1 million passengers per day will carry.
It cost 180 million liras.
Istanbul Metro and Marmaray will join the project.
The bridge at the height of 12 meters from the sea will be opened at the passage of the ships.
