Noting that Marmaray is the main transportation axis between the two sides of Istanbul, Yıldırım said that the transition from Asia to Europe will take 3 minutes.

Saying that “Marmaray constitutes the ring of the international transportation corridor”, Minister Yıldırım added that public transportation in Istanbul should be encouraged more and said “A foldable traffic should be targeted in Istanbul”.
Yıldırım stated that the traffic problem continues due to the incomplete integration in the infrastructure, and said that he supports the proposal of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality to take over the urban traffic management and thus Istanbul traffic can become more manageable.
On the other hand, the Minister of Transport stated that the rail system in Istanbul has now reached 141 kilometers, and said, "The rail system will exceed 5 kilometers in the next 400 years."
Referring to the importance of the maritime sector in the international economy, Yıldırım said, “87% of the world's trade is done by sea. Turkey, bearing the # 30 out of 15 countries in world trade, "he said. Yıldırım also used the expressions "We are in the best position in transportation and communication" in the negotiations with the EU.
