President Abdullah Gül and Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan sat in the driver's cockpit of the train departing from Üsküdar for the first flight. The train stopped as it passed under the Bosporus and the leaders struck a commemorative plaque at the special station under the sea.
Hostesses welcomed the first passengers of Marmaray with flowers at Yenikapı station.
