The foundation of the Ankara-Afyonkarahisar section of the Ankara-Izmir High Speed Train (YHT) line will be laid on the 157th anniversary (tomorrow) of TCDD. The ceremony, which will be attended by Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications Minister Binali Yıldırım and Minister of Forestry and Water Affairs Veysel Eroğlu, will be held in Afyonkarahisar. With the foundation of the 169-kilometer Ankara-Afyonkarahisar line, the first phase of the project, the region where the first railway was built on September 23, 1856 will be included in the high-speed train core network. With the YHT project, the 824-kilometer Ankara-Izmir railway will turn into a 640-kilometer high-speed train line. With the new system, the distance between Ankara-Afyonkarahisar will be reduced to 1.5 hours, and Afyonkarahisar-Izmir will be reduced to 2 hours.
