Bridge from Russia to Japan: Viktor İşayev, Minister of Far East Development of Russia, proposed a 7-kilometer bridge that will provide the shortest way to Sakhalin Island. The bridge will enable both rail and land transportation. Located just north of Japan, the island will be connected to the Japanese Islands in the future.
Russia reaches the Pacific Ocean by the Trans-Siberian railway line. An alternative railway line comes from the Baikal-Amur region. Transport Minister Igor Levitin proposed in 2009 the construction of a 580-kilometer-long railway from the city of Salih in Khabarovks to the station Nis, Sakhalin island. If this proposal is put into practice, a direct rail connection with Sakhalin island will be provided.
10 BILLION WILL TAKE DOLLARS
According to Ria Novost, the length of the bridge planned to be installed on the Nevelski Strait where the shortest distance is located will be the 7 mileage and the cost is at least 10 billion dollars. The Sakhalin Region and the Russian State Railways continue their technical work to make the project applicable.
CAN CONNECT TO JAPAN
According to Isaev, one day a bridge can be established on the 45 kilometer from Sakhalin Island to Hokkaido island of Japan. Thus, it will be possible to travel from Europe to Japan by rail.
