The design, engineering and consultancy services of the American Parsons company within the scope of the suspension rope exchange works of the Bosphorus and Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridges Maintenance, Repair and Structural Reinforcement Project were completed on April 26. The tender will be held on September 5 for the maintenance, repair, structural reinforcement and suspension rope exchange works of the bridges.
236 ROPE WILL BE RENEWED
Due to the 40th year of the Bosphorus Bridge's commissioning, heavy maintenance work will begin after the tender. Major maintenance, repair, structural reinforcement and suspension rope replacement work on the bridge will be completed in 2014. Within the scope of these studies, 236 ropes will be replaced. Defeated ropes will be able to carry more loads and have a long service life.
LATEST TECHNOLOGY PRODUCT SYSTEM
The most advanced technology products used in the world will be used in the maintenance works of the Bosphorus Bridge, which came into service in 1973. After the 40th year maintenance work, the bridge is expected to serve at least 40 more years. The state-of-the-art dehumidification system used in Japan will be installed in the main ropes and anchorage blocks in the bridges of the Bosphorus and Fatih Sultan Mehmet. Dry ropes will be prevented from rotting with the system.
Bosphorus Bridge will not be closed during the daytime hours except during the maintenance and repair works. The traffic will not be completely closed during the replacement of the suspension ropes. During the connections of the cables to the deck, during the night when the traffic is minimized, these lines will be closed by closing one strip at the edge. The edge strips on the ropes side of the bridge will be closed to traffic between the 22.00 and 06.00 hours in terms of life and property security. 10 solid special pre-tensioning steel will be used for the steel used in construction.
Within the scope of the works to be done, the electrical parts in the Bosphorus Bridge will be replaced. Suspended ropes of the bridge will be made vertical. Insulators will be placed between the tower and towers, and energy damping dampers will be placed at the bridge legs to prevent damage to the bridge during the swing or earthquake. Tower lifts and electrification systems that have been in service for 40 years will be renewed. The cross ropes used in the first design of the Bosphorus Bridge to reduce the effects due to the shaking of the bridge will be made vertical during the 40th year.
ASPHALT WILL COME FROM AMERICA
Asphalt renewal will also be made on the bridge, which was last changed in 1991. The rock asphalt extracted from the low-penetration lake will be used in the asphalt of the bridge. The asphalt in question comes from Trinidad Tabogo, a small state in America. It is marketed to the whole world from here. It is not an oil product asphalt. Lake asphalt is an asphalt naturally found in the lake. By mixing this asphalt and the asphalt used on normal roads, mastic asphalt will be applied when hard, high strength and 4 centimeters thick. This type of asphalt, which is used on steel-based bridges and has its own manufacturing and laying method, will be applied on a surface of approximately 26 thousand square meters. Before applying this asphalt, the existing asphalt and insulation system will be dismantled, rust will be checked in the steel floor and the insulation system will be renewed. The 2,5-month study is planned to start after the school closes in June 2014 and finish before the schools open. During the asphalt change, it is planned to serve as two arrivals and two arrivals on the road.
After completing the tender for the major repair and structural reinforcement project of the Bosphorus and Fatih Sultan Mehmet bridges to be held on September 5, the materials to be used in maintenance works until the summer of 2014 will be supplied from abroad. The works, which are planned to take approximately 18 months, will start with the delivery of the place within 15 days from the date of signing the contract.
