Afyon fast train waiting
For many years, Afyon people are counting days to have a dream.
AFYONKARAHİSAR is counting days to achieve a dream it has long established. Studies have started in Afyonkarahisar for the first phase of the high speed train project, which will shorten the distance between Ankara and Izmir. In the project, which is foreseen to be completed in 2015, the journey between Ankara and Afyon will be reduced to 1, 5 hours by high-speed train. After the Ankara-Afyonkarahisar stage is completed, Afyonkarahisar-Uşak and Uşak İzmir stages will be started.
The most challenging region on the 167-kilometer-long Ankara-Afyonkarahisar high-speed train route is Köroğlu Beli. Tunnel works have been started to overcome the difficulties that roughnesses will bring in the region. While an intense effort was observed in the studies in Köroğlu Beli, it was reported that the materials required for the tunnel were mainly supplied by Afyonkarahisar.
Within the framework of the project, 8 tunnels with a total length of 11 kilometers are expected to be built. It is stated that the largest of the tunnels will be built between Bayat and Seydiler. Within the scope of the high speed train project, bridge works have started in Gümüşkent.
