Turkmenistan President Gurbanguli Berdimuhamedov invited Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai to his country. Berdimuhamedov and Karzai will attend the groundbreaking ceremony of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Tajikistan railway project.
Berdimuhamedov sent the invitation letter with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Vice President Raşit Meredov. Minister Meredov was received by Afghan leader Karzai in the capital, Kabul. Karzai thanked for the invitation and expressed that he was very pleased with the help of Turkmenistan for peace in Afghanistan. Reminding that Turkmenistan provides cheap electricity to his country, Karzai stated that Ashgabat has provided humanitarian aid to them in every way.
Focusing on railway transportation in the region, Ashgabat wants to accelerate the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Tajikistan railway project. Within the scope of the project, the 85-kilometer-long Atamurat-Imamnazar railway will be built. In the second leg of the project, rails will be laid on the 38-kilometer road from Imamnazar to Afghanistan's Andhoy region. The railway tracks in question will be built with Turkmenistan's financial resources. – Newsactual
