The richest Neolithic Age (Polished Stone Age) finds in human history were uncovered in Yenikapı. The transportation project aiming to connect the two sides of Istanbul changed the pages of world history. Most of us are not aware of this. There is still a talk of "pottery". Those who are happy are the scientists… They state that the textbooks will change.

With thousands of years of history and culture, the excavations showed that Istanbul, which is the favorite of the world, is not empty.

ISTANBUL'S SETTLEMENT DATE

Neolithic food remains will reveal what the people of the period eat or which food products are traded.

Cengiz Erdil mentioned this issue in the Ses File. Istanbul University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Department of Anatomy Professor of animal bones and remains in the excavations. He spoke to Vedat Onar.

This time we will look at a different aspect of the Marmaray excavations. The bones of 54 animal species excavated in Yenikapı are also the subject of a study. Professor of Anatomy, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Istanbul University. Vedat Onar…. The ship skeletons found in the Marmaray excavations took the history back 7 thousand years. Very important findings were obtained in terms of archeology. But there are also animal bones of this subject, what kind of research was done there? Not much is known. This aspect of the Marmaray excavations is not well known. What has been achieved there?

In 2004, excavations started by the Presidency of Istanbul Archeology Museum and continued until today. This process within the ongoing evaluation of historical underground and Marmaray excavations at Yenikapı about 8 thousand today - 8,500 year we went back to the Neolithic period was extended to. But when we look at in terms of animal bones incredible density of 4-century Byzantine-era xnumx'ünc xnumx'ünc covering a period of several centuries until the animal remains out. You said the 13 kind, but the 14 is in the final state. Thousands of animals have acquired data from the bone above the 54 bin. But because our data is getting more intense material because it is not possible to evaluate the results of the excavation every day. therefore, their evaluation process will take a long time. Maybe the excavations will be finished in this year, but the laboratory studies will cover many years. When we look at the animal bones removed here, we call it 55 species as if it resembles a zoo. You can think of species, dolphins, tuna fish, horses, donkeys, foxes, there is a situation that shows a wide spread population. This is an area where the ruins of Theodosius Port, a famous port in the Marmara Sea. xnumx'nc used as active until the century, xnumx'ünc of - xnumx'ünc has begun to lose slowly fills function with silt of Lycos creek with his stuffed longer function until the century and 60-xnumx'ünc century after the Ottoman period, particularly Lange It was used as a bostariat. Lycos has brought streams of debris as well because it is made of segments around the creek in the records of the Lycos and Lycos have come to the area together with the stream from the ruins in this area.

Another area is filled with an incredible amount of animal remains that have emerged as an idle area. Especially the Byzantine horses are very much in the collection because the empire's most important power jumps. For military purposes, it has been used with all kinds of business facilities for transportation purposes. One needs to look at another aspect of the horses. Some of these horses were also used for butchery processed consumption. Even the dead horses, tails and mane hairs are taken from the examination of the bones we see. Besides, the consumption surplus materials are too much. Especially; sheep, goats, cattle, pigs and camels are located in such a way that she can show us what the eating habits are. The seafood is also very plentiful. Because of where the fish came to the harbor area get strong hunting of big fish, especially tuna, dolphin hunting there, we see that the sea turtle hunting also has made cracking process in their area. Small fish are probably referred to the city as a whole, but we can see these big fishes on the bones we saw here, cut, broken.

EXHIBITION AT THE VETERINARY FACULTY MUSEUM

- Now there is so much material… Where are they on display?

We needed this Cultural Assets and Museums of our faculty brings this material with the permission of the General Directorate's permission to take the archaeological museum in Istanbul and we're looking scientific studies are continuing. There is also an excavation work that has been carried out since 2004 in order to introduce our people to some of our people, which animals came out. In order to introduce them, we established our osteoarchaeology museum within the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. And here we are exhibiting our samples in our own room. We are trying to exhibit interesting materials here. We see the most important interest from schools, which makes us happy. Because we are very happy to teach students such things in terms of learning, curiosity and getting information from them.
