Haydarpaşa Baghdad Railway Photo Exhibition Opened in İzmit
“Haydarpaşa Bağdat Railway Photography Exhibition” was opened in Izmit district by the Kocaeli Representation Office of the Foundation for the Protection and Promotion of the Environment and Cultural Values (ÇEKÜL).
With the groundbreaking ceremony of Haydarpaşa Station, the exhibition, which includes 1880 photos of the construction of the Baghdad railway, from the 1914 to 58 Ottoman period, is visited with interest by students and citizens.
ÇEKÜL Foundation Kocaeli Provincial Representative Numan Gülşah, in a statement to the AA reporter, said that the citizens showed great interest in the photo exhibition, which includes interesting frames from the railway construction works from Haydarpaşa to Baghdad.
Gülşah stated that in the photographs from 133 years ago, there was also the destroyed Izmit Station, and on the route there were images of many cities and station buildings that day.
Explaining that the contract between the construction of Haydarpaşa Bağdat Railway and the Ottoman and German state was also included in the exhibition, Gülşah noted that the steam train photos attracted great attention especially with the German and Turkish engineers and workers working on the railway. “Haydarpaşa Bağdat Railway Photography Exhibition” will be open until Friday, 31 May at Nicomedia Cultural Center in Çukurbağ District of Izmit District.
