A new alliance initiative in South Caucasus
The trade forum, organized in Azerbaijan with the participation of Azerbaijani, Georgian and Turkish businessmen, was introduced by the Russian press as "a new alliance initiative in the South Caucasus".
A trade forum was organized by Azerbaijani, Georgian and Turkish businessmen in Gebele region of Azerbaijan.

Businessmen attending the forum stated that the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway line, which is under construction, will be used for transportation purposes. The Russian press, on the other hand, introduced the trade forum held in Gebele as a new alliance initiative in the South Caucasus.

Azerbaijani Minister of Economy and Development Şahin Mustafayev, who spoke at the forum, stated that the necessary steps will be taken in order to increase transportation in the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway line in the coming period. He said the railway line would be an important bridge between Asia and Europe.

Georgian Economy and Development Minister Georgi Kvirikaşvili said that there are foreign obstacles to the realization of the project, but the project will still be completed: “The Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway line project is one of the most important projects of Georgia. The Georgian government wants the project to continue and complete. But there were some technical problems. ” Speaking, Kvirikaşvili drew attention to the strategic importance of the project for the countries in the region.

Azerbaijan has allocated 775 million dollars for the construction of the Georgian section of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway line. The project is supported by the Azerbaijan State Oil Fund. Within the framework of the project, a new line with a length of 105 is expected to be constructed. Georgia will also reconsider the Ahalhalaki-Marabda-Tbilisi line. Thus, a total of 15 million tons of cargo per year is planned to be transported. After the opening of the railway line, it is foreseen to carry one million passengers and 6.5 million tons of cargo per year for the first period.

On the other hand, the countries participating in the forum brought the issue of Armenia to participate in the project. Şahin Mustafayev underlined that Armenia can also take part in regional projects if the occupation of Nagorno-Karabakh ends.

Meanwhile, Turkey's Economy Minister Zafer Caglayan, said he expects the Azerbaijani businessmen to invest in the country. Çağlayan noted that Turkish businessmen already have an investment of 6.5 billion dollars in Azerbaijan. Azerbaijani businessmen to invest in Turkey stated that an estimated 4 billion dollars. Mutual investments are expected to exceed $ 15 billion in the coming years.
