The opening ceremony was held at both the Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan borders. Nazarbayev and Berdimuhamedov first met at Bolaşak train station on the Turkmenistan border of Kazakhstan. The leaders received information about the Uzen (Kazakhstan) -Gizilgaya-Bereket-Etrek (Turkmenistan) Gurgen (Iran) railway line at the train station.
The project, which has a total length of 900 kilometers, passes 700 kilometers on the Turkmenistan border. Turkmenistan built 444 kilometers of the line on its territory. Serhetyaka town was established in the region near Turkmenistan border from Turkmenistan. Kazakhstan has completed the construction of 146 kilometers of its part.
Berdimuhamedov and Nazarbayev opened the railway at Bolaşak station on the border of Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan. In his speech at the opening ceremony, Kazakh leader Nazarbayev said that they competed in time in freight transportation and that they gained an important advantage in freight transportation competition with the new rail network.
