The Sakarya light rail system is being prepared: The train between Arifiye and Adapazarı, where trains were halted due to the High Speed Train project at the beginning of last year, will be used in urban public transport.
In the project, two light rail systems were aimed to be transported by 10 thousand people in the 10 kilometer railway line.
Sakarya Metropolitan Municipality has developed a project to evaluate the 142-year historical Istanbul-Adapazarı railway line between Adapazarı and Arifiye. In the project, which is also supported by the Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications, the light rail system will operate on the 10 km railway line between Adapazarı Train Station and the New Intercity New Terminal in Arifiye District.
TCDD Sakarya Metropolitan Municipality supported the project in Turkey Wagon Industry Co. The train trains, which will leave the historical station building of Adapazarı and have 3 wagons and can carry 500 passengers at the same time, will be able to download and drop passengers at the 7 stops in the city center of Adapazarı. Within the scope of the project, a reinforced concrete platform with a granite of 80 meters in length and a width of 2.5 meters on the railway line was created and stations were built.
Sakarya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Zeki Toçoğlu said that they started test drives in light rail system. President Toçoğlu stated that the light rail system aims to transport a thousand people a day, and that the project is working for the implementation of the earthquake houses established after the 10 August Earthquake in Yenikent. Toçoğlu, said:
“In 2013, we will take the first step between the new terminal and the current train station, and then start working to install the light rail system in the Yenikent area, thereby reducing the burden of city traffic.”
