The first step of the trolleybus period in public transportation in Kütahya
In Kütahya, a protocol was signed between Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) organization Istanbul Transportation Inc. and Kütahya Municipality in order to establish a trolleybus (electric bus) line within the scope of an environmentally oriented project in public transportation.
Mayor Mustafa Iça stated that they decided on the trolley while doing research to establish an environmentally friendly, fast, safe and cheap public transportation system in the ceremony held in the Municipal Council Hall.
Stating that the tender process, which is the last stage in the project works, has been reached, Iça said, “I would like to thank Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Kadir Topbaş, who supported the Istanbul Transportation Inc. officials and their team to Kütahya, who led the establishment of the new trolleybus system.”
He said that after the connection of Istanbul-Antalya High Speed Train (YHT) Line to Victory Airport, Kütahya will become more important.
Explaining that they determined the route of the first part of the trolleybus line as the Germiyan Campus of Dumlupınar University (DPÜ) in Zafertepe District and DPÜ Evliya Çelebi Campus, located on the 10th kilometer of Kütahya-Tavsanli highway, said:
After completing the first section line, as the second section, we will line up the Yoncalı Hot Springs from our thermal tourism centers and the Kütahya-Eskişehir highway, which we designed as a satellite city, and the surrounding housing area. We are considering a wide network that will connect many points of our city. We want the trolleybus line to run by private public bus owners. We gave them a month to reassure us in this matter. If they do not, the municipality will undertake this work by showing this will. The development plans of our first line, from Zafertepe District to DPÜ Evliya Çelebi Campus, have been determined. We will make this line first. In the beginning, 130 trolley buses, each with a capacity of 18 people, and 18-gauge buses, each of which is 18 meters, will be reached. Around this will be buses that provide our current transportation and support the main line. If we are going to the DPÜ Evliya Çelebi Campus from Zafertepe District for 45 minutes, our goal is to shorten it by 15-20 minutes.
İca added that they planned to extend the second line to Tavşanlı, which is located at a distance of 50 from the city center and as a result, they aim to have the trolleybus line between Zafer Airport and Tavşanlı.
Cafer Samancı, one of the Istanbul Transportation Coaches, stated that the tender for the line, which will provide environmental, fast, safe and cheap public transportation, will be held in July.
Later on, the protocol was signed with Sam and Samac.
Meanwhile, the modernized system of trolleybuses that used in previous years in Istanbul and Ankara had already expressed to apply for the first time in Kütahya Turkey.
