Greece's Piraeus city tram system extension contract signed

According to the statement made by the Greek Ministry of Development; An agreement was reached with the construction companies Themeli and Attiko Metro SA to extend the existing Piraeus tram system from the terminal to the Peace and Friendship Stadium.
The construction of the project is planned to start in March and the line to be completed by the end of 2015.
The four-year agreement for the participation of Piraeus Mayor Vassilis Mihaloliakos, as well as the Minister of Development, Infrastructure, Transport and Networks Minister Kostis Hatzidakis and Alternative Development Minister Stavros Kalogiannis, is expected to benefit greatly from the transport of the city of Piraeus.
When the line is completed, PFS - Piraeus will be completed in 8 minutes. Approximately 35.000 people are expected to use the line per day. With the 5.4 km extension, 12 more stops will be added. The line, which has a total budget of 91 million Euros, will cost 2007 million Euros with the funds obtained from the EU National Strategic Reference Framework (NSRF) and the Attika 2013-61 operational program.
