Metin Tahan, Deputy General Manager of Infrastructure Investments, said in a statement about the Marmaray Project, as an investor headquarters, they were making field visits with the aim of running the Marmaray Project very quickly with railway, seaway, airline and metro constructions.

Stating that they spend about 4 days of the week at the Marmaray construction site, Tahan said, “76 kilometers of the Marmaray Project, which is 15,5 kilometers, passes through the tubes that are located in the underground throat, which is the core of Marmaray, from Ayrılık Çeşme to Kazlı Çeşme. We are working hard to raise our line to 29 October 2013 ”.

Stating that the opening of Marmaray will be held on 29 October 2013, Tahan said, “There were serious problems we encountered in Marmaray. You work in tunnels about 60 meters below the ground. When we consider the traffic flow at the residential point of Istanbul, we work 3 hours in 24 shifts. Weather is not affecting us because we work underground ”.

Stating that they have made serious progress in the Marmaray study, Tahan stated that until 29 October 2013, they will improve the suburban lines between Gebze and Pendik and raise Marmaray. from Gebze HalkalıStating that the work continues in the section up to, Tahan said that they aim to finish the 20-kilometer section by 29 October 2013 in order to provide uninterrupted road flow after the section of the Istanbul speed railroad after Köseköy.

The History of the Marmaray Project The idea about a railway tunnel that will pass under the Bosphorus was first put forward in 1860. The tunnel was planned as a tunnel placed on columns built on the seabed.
Such ideas and thoughts were further evaluated over the next 20-30 years and a design was developed in 1902. In this design, a railway tunnel under the Bosphorus was envisaged, but this design mentioned a tunnel placed on the seabed.

Since then, many different ideas and thoughts have been tried and new technologies have turned into design. The desire to build a railroad public transport link that stretches between the east and west in Istanbul and passes under the Bosphorus gradually increased in the early 1980s, and as a result, the first comprehensive feasibility study was conducted and reported in 1987.

As a result of this study, the route determined in the project today was chosen as the best among a series of routes. The project, which was outlined in 1987, was discussed in the years that followed, and in 1995 it was decided to carry out more detailed studies and studies and to update feasibility studies, including passenger demand forecasts in 1987.

These studies were completed in 1998, the results showed that the results obtained were correct, revealing that the project will offer many benefits to people working and living in Istanbul and will reduce the rapidly increasing problems related to traffic jams in the city.

In the 1999 Turkey and Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) signed a financing agreement between. This loan agreement was the basis for the projected financing for the Istanbul Bosphorus Crossing section of the project. This loan agreement also includes the provision of a group of international consultants who will be selected through competitive bidding. The selected consultant, Avrasyaconsult, prepared the tender documents for the project at March 2002.

Tenders were open to international and national contractors and / or joint ventures. Contract covering the construction of 2002 stations with the Bosphorus tube crossing and approach tunnels in 4 BC Tender of Railway Strait Tube Crossing Construction, Tunnels and Stations was tendered. A second loan agreement was signed with JICA in 1 for this contract.

In addition, the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the 2004 have signed loan agreements for the financing of the Railway Vehicles (CR2006) in 1 in 2006 in order to finance the financing agreements of important parts of the project.

With the Council of Europe Development Bank (CEB), loan agreements were signed for the financing of the CR2008 contract in 1 and in the 2010 for the financing of the CR2 contract.

Contract CR1 Improvement of Suburban Lines and Electro-Mechanical Systems work was tendered at 2006 (prequalification 2004). The ICC Arbitration process, which started upon the termination and the contractor's application, continues.

The tender process of the said work under the name of Contract CR3 started with the publication of the International Tender announcement in July 2010 and technical offers will be opened in January 2011.

Contract CR2 Procurement of Railway Vehicles was tendered in 2008 (prequalification 2007) and the contract was signed in November 2008 with the joint venture that started the tender in December 2008.
