The rails of the Chengmianle railway, which is planned as the first high-speed train line in the southwestern part of China, started to be laid in Sichuan province today (2 December).
The fact that the high-speed train construction, which is one of the important transportation projects realized after the big earthquake in Sichuan, came to the rail laying stage, shows that significant progress has been made in the project.
Xu Lanmin, general manager of the project, told the press that 40 billion 500 million yuan will be spent for the project. Xu explained that the high-speed train line starting from Jiangyou city in the north will pass through the cities of Mianyang, Deyang, Guanghan, Pengshan, Menshan, Qingshen, Leshan and reach the foothills of Mount E'mei, China's famous tourist site. The high-speed train line with a total length of 312 kilometers is expected to be put into service by the end of 2013.
The speed of this high-speed train was designed as 200 kilometers per hour. The entire line time is 1 hours. With the completion of the line, Sichuan province's central Chengdu city, the capital city of Beijing and Guangzhou, such as railway connections with important cities will be reinforced.
