Steel Dynamics Indiana raises rail production line
Fort Wayne, Indiana-based Steel Dynamics, Inc. (SDI) plans to install a new heat treatment system at its Indiana structural steel and rail manufacturing unit. When the system is activated, it will have the capacity to produce 350.000 tons of rail from commercial grade steel for the North American rail industry. Capital investments are estimated to be just under $ 27 million.
The expansion project is expected to start in the first quarter of 2013. The company plans to commission the new system by the end of 2013. It was stated that the works to increase the production will continue until 2015 and at the beginning of 2016, the capacity will reach to 350.000. With the growth of the plant, the 40 is expected to create new jobs.
SDI anticipates its structural steel and rail manufacturing unit to become one of North America's leading rail manufacturers, with new rail production capacities. It was stated that the company can produce longer rails than its local competitors and the produced rails can be cut to the desired length according to customer needs.
