The 1st Experts Meeting for the direct railway connection between Turkey and Iraq was held on 03-04 September 2012 at the General Directorate of TCDD. İsmet Duman, Deputy General Manager of TCDD, chaired the meeting.

Meeting; Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Customs and Trade, Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications, General Directorate of TCDD, General Directorate of External Relations and EU and General Directorate of Infrastructure Investments, General Directorate of Security of the Ministry of Interior and General Directorate of Provincial Administration Representatives of the General Command of Mapping and representatives of the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Iraqi Railways, Iraqi Ankara Embassy, ​​Iraqi CZ-Corp Consultancy and Engineering Company participated in the meeting.

During the meeting, which was held in the context of mutual understanding and cooperation, the parties emphasized the importance they gave to the completion of this railway line which would make a great contribution to the economy of both countries.
Both sides agreed on the continuation of the exchange of views on the project and the negotiations at the border area of ​​December 2012 to be conducted on the basis of the information and documents to be communicated mutually.
