Izmir Metropolitan Municipality and the Republic of Turkey State Railways (TCDD), conducted in partnership "Izmir Bay and Port Rehabilitation Project", held introductory meetings aimed at improving the configuration and the Gulf effectiveness of the EIA process. During the meeting, the ini İzmir Bay and İzmir Port Rehabilitation Project Lim, which will increase the usability of İzmir Port and clear the Gulf, was introduced to the public.
19 Minister of Transportation, Maritime Affairs and Communications Binali Yıldırım, İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Aziz Kocaoğlu, İzmir Deputy Mustafa Moroğlu, TCDD General Manager Süleyman Karaman, İzmir Chamber of Commerce Chairman Ekrem Demirtaş, General Manager of İZSU Alparslan from civil society organizations to academics, a large number of people attended.
Speaking at the meeting, Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Aziz Kocaoğlu said, “The number one project that I will leave inheritance to İzmir is the Gulf project”. The joint projects with TCDD started with the İZBAN line and the 80 km Aliağa-Menderes line was 32 km. Mayor Kocaoğlu, who said that they would carry it to Torbalı by extending it further, emphasizing the importance of the Gulf project, “I have been president for 8.5 years. I was very confused about this project, but when they say 'what is your legacy to İzmir when your mission ends,' this number is a project. ”
Stating that the project is two-legged, Mayor Kocaoğlu gave the following information: “TCDD has efforts to expand the port, the port road and increase its income by 3 times. There is also a department of the Metropolitan Municipality, which is all about environmental investments. The Körfez project was an indispensable project both for İzmir being a logistics base thanks to the port, and for the increase in port revenues and further development of İzmir trade. I would like to thank the Minister on behalf of my Izmir citizens for this great cooperation and contribution. The channel will be opened in the Gulf and water circulation will be provided. The two channels will support each other, the water quality will increase and we will reach a swimable Gulf. In addition, we will accomplish something important with the project. We have completed 8 treatments in 24 years, but you can not go to a point other than the major metropolises in the world league in terms of environment by finishing the purification, you just do your duty. If you make one of the most beautiful bays in the world as you can swim 70 years ago, you will be in the top 5 or 3rd place as a city that has achieved this in the world in terms of environment. I think this promotion is valuable from all the promotions. ”
Minister of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications, Binali Yıldırım, said in his speech that they are happy that they have implemented a "beautiful cooperation project" and said, "This project will do both jobs. It will enable İzmir Port to be used properly and to create a channel to serve new generation ships. In addition, by providing recirculation of the bay, which is filled with alluvium flowing through 16 streams, it will both clean the water, increase its quality and regain the flora of its ecological structure. ”
According to the reports to be obtained after the environmental studies to be carried out, Minister Binali Yıldırım said that the works will gain even more speed: “Izmir Metropolitan Municipality undertakes the rehabilitation of 16 rivers and the opening of the circulation channel. TCDD, on the other hand, undertakes the opening of a 13 km navigation channel. They are also cooperating about stacking the material. I congratulate TCDD and İZSU. Izmir Metropolitan Municipality as a municipality, as the Ministry we; We will continue to support projects that will facilitate the life of these and similar Izmirites and increase the quality of the city, without considering any political interference. Izmir deserves this. İzmir has lost years, we all know that it is necessary to use time very effectively to compensate. There are many ongoing projects in Izmir. Political competition also speeds up the service. I am also happy with this aspect. Occasionally we miss the setting, then the service is a bit interrupted. There is no harm if we leave the measure at the dose without missing the measure. As long as there is competition, Izmir will win it. ”
TCDD General Manager Süleyman Karaman said, cak We are hopeful that we can achieve this project “. I would like to thank the Minister of Foreign Affairs of İzmir for the Mayor of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality. From the beginning until today they gave great importance to themselves, ından he said.
At the meeting, the project contractor Yüksel Proje Firm's Project Manager Prof. Dr. Işıkhan Güler also made a presentation on the work done on the rehabilitation of the Gulf.
Professor Dr. In his speech, Işıkhan Güler said that they prepared the EIA application file and said: “İZSU, 'digital and sediment transport modeling project with real-time observation system' was realized for this project. A very important project. Izmir Metropolitan Municipality started the construction of the measurement stations that need to be established to implement the project and installed the first station in Passport. Other stations will be established in Foça, Karaburun, Güzelbahçe and will instantly record the data of the current, water level, air pressure, rain amount and heat in the Gulf. ”
He also touched on the results they achieved in their work until today. Dr. Güler stated that they detected soft sand on the ground of the stream recovery channel and emphasized that one of the most important points in the project is recovery: “Some of the material that will be used will be used as backfill and some in Çiğli as recovery. This material can be used in many different areas for dredging materials, building materials, coastal feeding and agricultural purposes. ”
As part of the project carried out with the partnership of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality and TCDD, the following will be done: "The" approach channel (Navigation) "and" maneuvering circle "will be opened along the South axis of the Izmir Bay. Deepening the port base and creating a new container storage area with the material obtained (part II container terminal area). An additional 550 thousand square meter field will be opened. This area will be among the top 50 in the world and the top 20 in Europe. A circulation channel will be opened along the North axis of the Izmir Bay. Turkey's largest cruise port will be created. "
The project aims to bring high tonnage ships to the port, to provide clean water to the Gulf and thus to revitalize the ecological life. Furthermore, the screening of the jen port approach channel., Which will play the port of Izmir, is one of the most important steps of the project. While the cost of new investments is estimated to be 300 million dollars, an increase in the amount of clean water entering the Gulf through the ecologically vulnerable North coasts and the Gediz Delta Wetland along with the channels to be established within the project will stimulate the ecological system in the region.
To date, 75 was sampled from the 86 drilling point and it was found that the material removed from the bottom was harmless waste and heavy metal ratios were low. Within the scope of the project, the screening materials that are classified as harmless will be disposed of by pre-treatment and the material will be transported to the Çiğli Wastewater Treatment Plant with pipes and recycled here. The material to be recycled can be used in the greening of the area and in the production of some industrial materials such as ceramics.
