Gebze-Orhangazi-Bursa part of the Istanbul-Izmir highway project will be completed in 3,5 year

Istanbul-Izmir flights will reduce to 3,5 hours which is Turkey's largest highway project in Gebze-Orhangazi-Izmir Highway Project, Gebze-Orhangazi-Bursa part of the reportedly envisaged to be completed in 3,5 years.
The contractors of the project, Göçay, Yüksel, Nurol, Özaltın, Makyol and Italian Astaldi companies, came together with OTOYOL A.Ş's Assistant General Manager for Construction Cemalettin Kocamanoğlu and Deputy General Manager Responsible for Suspension Bridge and Southern Approach Viaduct. He promoted the work of Samanlı Mountain Tunnel pass and Izmit Bay Crossing Suspension Bridge to the press members.
Kocamanoglu, said in a statement during the trip, the total length of the highway will be 451 kilometers and the most important part of the project between Gebze-Orhangazi 43 kilometers formed part of the said. Kocamanoglu stated that they started construction works with their own resources and gave the following information:
“The southern approach viaduct to be pursued with a suspension bridge and the works between Samanlı Mountain Tunnel and Gebze-Orhangazi are the most important stages of the project. We place a special emphasis on our work in this region, both in terms of their importance and duration, and due to the intensification of the expropriation made by the General Directorate of Highways. We started our work with the equity of 6 companies that make up the consortium. Our target is Gebze-Orhangazi priority, completing the section up to Bursa in 3,5 years and opening it to service. ”
Kocamanoğlu stated that the part of the project up to İzmir was to be completed earlier than the time spent in the contract, “We are moving towards this goal. The total of the investment is $ 9,5 billion, with overlaps. We will bring the financing of this from abroad as a loan. We completed the loan studies and submitted the agreements to the administration. We are waiting for the conclusion. ”
Referring to the debates about the route, Kocamanoğlu said, “While the project was being awarded, it was already clear where the highway will pass and which route it will use. However, when there are parts that need to be changed, we present these changes to the administration. We are preparing for possible route changes and due to the scope of RAMSAR (Contract for the Protection of Wetlands), the southern crossing of Ulubat Lake is canceled, while the north crossing is considered as one of the alternatives from the north. ”
-Nebil Öztürk's explanation-
Nebil Öztürk, Deputy General Manager for Suspension Bridge and Southern Approach Viaduct, said that the suspension bridge to be constructed between Dilovasi and Herzegovina within the scope of the project will be the fourth largest suspension bridge in the world, with a central span of approximately 550 meters.
Öztürk stated that the bridge where the edge openings will find the 550 meter will reach the 64 meter with its rough height from the sea.
In the bridge construction, approximately 160 thousand cubic meters of concrete will be produced and around 180 thousand tons of steel will be used. Tower heights will have about 100 meters higher feet than Fatih Sultan Mehmet and the Bosphorus bridges. We will start manufacturing the steel parts of the bridge, the design stages of which have been completed, in January 2013. We plan to open the bridge to traffic in 2015. Our total construction period will be 38 months by design. Due to the geological features of the site outside of this suspension bridge, we are building approximately 1,5 kilometers of concrete viaducts as we do not have the chance to fill normally. After finishing our suspension bridge, we will connect the highway with a 1,5 kilometer long viaduct. Unlike the highway, the bridge will also be paid. ”
Tunnel Construction Chief Kürşat Erol stated that as a result of the works that started in February, they did a total of 920 meters of excavation work for the tunnel construction, and they worked on a 300-hour basis with close to 24 workers.
Stating that the upper soil thickness of the tunnel has reached 410 meters, Erol said, “We are building two tunnels with a total length of 3 thousand 414 meters, one of which is 3 thousand 366 and the other is 6 meters. So far, we have advanced 780 meters in a single tunnel. Our road excavation width will be 440 meters and the usage area will be 16 meters. We continue our work on occupational health without leaving our precautions. ”
