Giving information about the works in the Yenikapı excavation area, which is the most important stage of the Marmaray Project, Topbaş reminded that the footprints of people living in the city 8 thousand years ago were found in the excavations last year.
Stating that the excavation works in the layers where the footprints are located, Topbaş said that as of the end of August, the station excavation point in Yenikapı will be entered.
Topbas that a municipality in the history of the world does not carry out such a large archaeological excavation and spend so much money Topbas, said:
“As Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, we have given great support to the Marmaray works. We also allowed the conduct of scientific work. Because I see Marmaray important for the city. The work at Marmaray has reached a certain point, we are starting station excavations by the end of August. Currently, the installation of the Golden Horn Bridge continues. In order to get to the Yenikapı metro line that will pass from Levent direction to Taksim, that station must be finished.
Because that region is the node of rail systems in Istanbul. About 2,5 million people will pass through it a day. This region, which we regard as a node, is the meeting point of the east-west, north-south axis and an important point. For this reason, Marmaray must be finished. ”
Marmaray Yenikapi Station excavation begins
