(According to the October 2008 rate: 0.13 Euro, 0.18 USD) Ticket fee is not taken into account. The fourth and fifth wagons in the middle wagons in the Cairo subway wagons are reserved for women. Women who do not want to travel with men are used in these wagons. However, women can also use other wagons. While 2 million passengers are transported daily on two metro lines, the annual average number is 700 million passengers.

Because of Cairo's population and densities, the city needed a better transport system. According to 1987 data, the population of the city was 10 million, and 2 million people live in other cities while working in Cairo. Before the metro was built, 20.000 people could travel per hour in Cairo's transportation system. However, after the subway was built, the average hourly number of passengers reached 60.000.
