1. Project Description:
Developing and Implementing Advanced Materials and Technologies to Improve Wheel and Rail Life in Rail Transportation.
2. The goal of the project:
Reducing the need for traction force with better fit between the wheel and rail, reducing the wear due to friction, thus; saving on labor and material costs.
3. Selection Reason:
Maintenance costs of existing wheel and rail will be saved and service times will be reduced. The risk of derelict wagons will be reduced. Increases in operating speeds will be provided.
4. Project Steps:
? Examining the existing system, examining the methods to be applied and choosing the appropriate one,? Selection of suitable heat treatment and alloying elements.
5. Budget Items:
? Supply of chemicals, procurement of services for the development of material,? Special rail and wheel intake,? Conduction tests in the laboratory environment,? Evaluation of results.

Implementation of this developed material on lines and trains in the operation of TCDD.
