Istanbul's metro lines will be completed in 2013

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality plans to put the metro lines into service one by one in 2013. The construction of the Haliç Metro Crossing Bridge will also be completed in 2013. Haliç Metro Crossing Bridge, which brought the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to remove Istanbul from the World Heritage List, caused international discussions for a long time. The bridge, which was designed as a suspended system on the views that it will affect the historical silhouette of the city, was reduced from 82 meters in length to 50 meters at the beginning. With the completion of the Golden Horn Metro Crossing Bridge, whose construction was extended due to UNESCO's objections, the Taksim metro will reach Yenikapı by passing through Unkapanı. While the mounting of the carrier legs of the bridge continues, 47 percent of its physical realization is completed. 60 percent of the ongoing works between Taksim and Yenikapı have been completed. The total length of the line, which will have a capacity of 70 thousand passengers per hour, is 5,9 kilometers.
