Manaus Monorail Contract Signed

The Amazonas Infrastructure Secretariat signed a contract on January 20 with Scomi Engineering-CR, a joint venture of Almedia Mendes Junior and Serveng, to build a 20 km straddle monorail in the city of Manaus.

The total value of the contract is estimated at $1.45 billion. Scomi Engineering announced its share as $339∙9 million. The project includes the supply of 10 six-car Sutra Train sets and depot equipment, as well as track wrenches, a maintenance vehicle, system integration and project management.

According to data announced in August 2011, this line will serve nine stations and will operate between Largo da Matriz and Jorge Teixeira. It will also have the capacity to carry up to 35 000 passengers/hour per trip. The line is planned to be completed in 2014. Scomi also realized the first Brazilian monorail project on June 2, 2011, as part of the Monotrilho Intergração consortium.
