Izmit Train Station turned into a train park

Within the scope of the High Speed Train (YHT) Project, Izmit Train Station turned into a train park when the train services between Izmit and Gebze were stopped for two years as of February 1, 2012.

The railway transportation between Istanbul and Anatolia was also interrupted when the 122-year railway line, which connects Istanbul to Anatolia, was shut down for line renewal from February 1 due to the High Speed Train project between Izmit and Gebze. As the trains were out of service, the wagons that were left idle began to be parked on the lines at Izmit Station. Since the works are currently carried out between Gebze and Körfe, wagons in other regions continue to be brought to Izmit for the park.

Izmit Gar officials said that there is no transportation at the railway station and empty trains are parked because they are empty and other trains can be parked according to gar capacity when needed.
