Turkey's largest urban rail transport system in İzban, passenger carrying capacity is increasing. 40 electric train sets will be purchased for the line connecting the north of İzmir to the south. Binali Yıldırım, the Minister of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications, signed the relevant contract in Izmir.
It connects İzmir from Aliağa to Cumaovası, its passenger carrying capacity is constantly increasing. Reaching 18 million passengers in 50 months, İZBAN significantly relieved urban traffic.
Daily Capacity to Fold
With the new attendees, the number of Izban's train sets will increase from 43 to 83 and the daily passenger capacity of 150 thousand will increase to 300 thousand.
For the new train set to be taken for İZBAN, the contract was signed by the Transport Maritime and Communications Minister Binali Yıldırım and the South Korean company representative.
Target 550 Bin
In his speech at the ceremony, Yıldırım said, “We need new train sets. Secondly, we need the integration of İZBAN with suburban flights of state railways and intercity train services. When we do these two, we can easily reach 550 thousand passengers here, ”he said.
180 Will Cost Million Dollars
The delivery of new train sets will cost 180 million dollars. In production, 20 will be used in domestic material.
Efforts are continuing to extend Izban to Bergama in the north and Selcuk in the south.
