Due to the High Speed Train (YHT) Project, the Ministry of Transport has taken a series of measures, as train services will stop between Izmit and Gebze for 1 years from 2 February. Routine maintenance on the highway parallel to the route was removed for two years, the public transportation capacities of the municipalities were increased, a ferry line was created between Derince and Tekirdağ in order to prevent disruptions in the transportation of the industrial logistics sector and the transporters by train. By the way, while the bus services that Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality put on this route started this morning, the citizens did not show much interest in the buses on the first day.

In the statement made by the TCDD General Directorate, it was reminded that due to the construction of the İzmit Köseköy-Gebze High Speed Train line, the train traffic will be suspended for 1 months as of February 2012, 24 on the Eskişehir - Istanbul line. In the statement, it was stated that the construction of the Eskişehir-Istanbul section of the Ankara-Istanbul High Speed Train Line, which is the largest High Speed Train line in the country and the Ankara-Eskişehir section was put into service in 2009, has reached the final stage, and that it will be completed in 2013 in an approximately timely and integrated manner with MARMARAY. stated to be targeted.

“In this section, the old line and the new line, which is defined as displacement in the railway literature, are built on top of each other due to geographical conditions, urbanization and expropriation difficulties. In this context, since the Köseköy - Gebze section is completely located on the existing line due to expropriation difficulties, it was not possible to continue the train traffic at the same time with the work done on the line, both in terms of timely completion of the line and safety. Although the existing road is double tracked, it is not suitable for one line to remain open and the other to work, in terms of project construction time and costs, since the lines are on the same platform. In addition, this section is made with EU grant loans for the first time in our country in railways, and the usage period of the grant is defined.

122 LATER

In the statement, within the scope of YHT line construction, the existing line between Köseköy and Gebze, built in 1890, will be reconstructed 122 years later and the physical and geometric conditions will be made suitable for High Speed Train operation. In addition, there was no level crossing on this line, stating that:

“On the line, there are 9 tunnels, 10 tunnels, 122 bridges and 141 culverts, one on and off. These structures will be modified and standardized if necessary, 28 new culverts and 1 underpass will be built. Within the scope of the construction, approximately 1 million 800 thousand cubic meters of excavation and 720 thousand cubic meters of fill will be carried out. On the other hand, a new line is planned from the north in parallel with the Köseköy-Gebze section, and the connection of this road will be provided with the Third Bosphorus Bridge on the north Marmara motorway. This region of our country will have a multi-choice railway transportation network in the medium term, with the second high-speed railway, Istanbul-Ankara, which has been designed with Marmaray, Ankara-Istanbul High Speed Railway. In order to meet the transportation needs of the citizens in the most reasonable measure during the construction process, meetings were held with the governors of the provinces of the region under the direction of the Minister of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications, Kocaeli, Istanbul, Sakarya Metropolitan Municipalities, Governorships, TCDD General Directorate, General Directorate of Highway Regulation, IETT, Istanbul Transportation Inc. On-site inspections were also made by delegations made up of officials. ”
