Sakarya Train Station Moves to New Terminal

Studies carried out in Ankara for a while to find solutions to Sakarya's problems continue. After meetings with Deputy Prime Minister Beşir Atalay, Minister of Health Recep Akdağ, Minister of Forestry and Water Affairs Veysel Eroğlu and TOKİ President Ahmet Haluk Karabel, the Sakarya delegation met with Binali Yıldırım, Minister of Transport this time.

Minister of Transport Binali Yıldırım, Sakarya Governor Mustafa Büyük, AK Party Deputies Hasan Ali Çelik, Ayhan Sefer Üstün, Şaban Dişli, Ayşenur İslam, Ali İhsan Yavuz, Metropolitan Mayor Zeki Toçoğlu and TCDD General Manager Süleyman Karaman attended the meeting held at the Ministry of Transport. The issue of moving the train station to the new Intercity terminal built by the Metropolitan Municipality was the hallmark of the meeting, where evaluations and some new projects regarding the works carried out by the Ministry of Transport in Sakarya were discussed.

Commenting on the meetings held, President Toçoğlu said, “As it is known, we have been working on the transfer of the train station to the new terminal for a long time. The fact that the trains made 24 departures in a day and the train station was in the center adversely affected the traffic in the city. For this reason, as Sakarya Metropolitan Municipality, we started such a study in order to remove the train station from the city center and put an end to this congestion. We made a presentation about our project to Mr. Minister. They stated that this project was prepared in a reasonable and logical way and that they would give full support to this project as the Ministry of Transport. This project is good for our city. 2012 will be the year of Sakarya,” he said.

CITY RAIL SYSTEM IS IMPLEMENTING

Stating that they will take the first step of the city rail system after the train station is moved to the new terminal, Mayor Toçoğlu said that as the Metropolitan Municipality, they started to work on the realization of this project without wasting any time. Toçoğlu stated that after the train station was moved to the new terminal, they would implement the first phase of our urban rail system project to enable citizens to reach the new terminal from the city center. Governor Mustafa Büyük, on the other hand, stated that the studies carried out in Ankara regarding the investments were very positive. Making an assessment on behalf of the deputies, the Chairman of the Parliamentary Human Rights Commission and AK Party Sakarya Deputy Ayhan Sefer Üstün stated that the AK Party government supported Sakarya in all matters.

WE ARE SIDE SAKARYA AND SAKARYAALI

Stating that Sakarya is a city that grows and develops day by day, Minister of Transport Binali Yıldırım said, “We are always with Sakarya and the people of Sakarya”. Stating that the Ministry of Transport will give full support to Sakarya for the transfer of the train station to the new terminal, Yıldırım said, “As far as we have examined, it has been a reasonable and logical project. We are ready to do our part. We are ready to give you all kinds of support in this regard. We are well aware that Sakarya has a special place in the heart of our Honorable Prime Minister. Sakarya is an important city for us, for Turkey. It is growing and developing rapidly day by day. Of course, in parallel with this development, it is necessary to prepare such important projects.”
