In the opening ceremony of the Marmaray-Metro Rescue Excavations Symposium organized at the Archaeological Museums, Prof. Dr. Ercan Özdemir from Istanbul University Department of Conservation and Restoration of Movable Cultural Heritage. Dr. Sait Basaran, Yenikapı excavations belonging to the Byzantine period during the excavations of the 4 and 11 century 32 wrecks until today, he said.
Stating that the ships are taken under protection in water tanks, Başaran said, “By adding some chemicals to the tanks, we will make the boards that are now like sponges hardened. Then, we plan to exhibit the wrecks in the museum, which is planned to be established next to the metro in Yenikapı. ” Stating that the works created excitement in the scientific world, Başaran emphasized that the remains of the wall, estimated to belong to Constantine Walls, and the prehistoric period finds unearthed at a depth of 6.50 meters are very important.
