İzmir, the third largest city of our country, has signed a giant project with the cooperation of Ministry of Transport, TCDD and İzmir Metropolitan Municipality in order to produce modern solutions for urban mass transportation.
TCDD within the framework of the project; It established electrification, signaling and telecommunication facilities on the double-line 79 km Aliağa Menemen Basmane and Alsancak Cumaovası line by removing the suburban line to the double line; It resolved its infrastructure deficiencies; put the line under contract; Reconstructed Egekent 2 and Ulukent stations in metro standard. TCDD closed this segment to passenger and freight transport for about 5 years.
Izmir Metropolitan Municipality has also completed the construction of two 5.2 km long tunnels, the reconstruction of 25 stations, 25 highway underpasses and overpasses, and maintenance-repair and transfer centers.
He established TCDD and İzmir Metropolitan Municipality İZBAN A.Ş. to be responsible for the operation of the suburban system. For the project, 99 series of vehicles consisting of 33 wagons were purchased from abroad.
Turkey, which is linked to the airport's longest commuter system İZBAN; Starting from Aliağa from the north, Menemen, Çiğli, Karşıyaka, Alsancak, Şirinyer, Gaziemir, Adnan Menderes Airport and the total 31 station to Cumaovası 550 station will serve a thousand passengers a day.
With the metro system, the distance between Alsancak and Aliağa is 60 minutes, and the distance between Alsancak and Cumaovası is 26 minutes, reducing a total of 86 minutes.
