However, with the implementation of the "Accelerated Train" project, the bet of the black train would be opened. The accelerated train, which reduced Ankara-Istanbul to 5 hours, started its first flight from Istanbul on Friday, June 5, 2004, simultaneously with Ankara. Accelerated trains were named after poet Yahya Kemal Beyatlı and writer Yakup Kadri Karaosmanoğlu. The price of the trip was determined as 24 million liras.

On Thursday, July 22, 2004, a train accident occurred between Mekece-Osmaneli. The accelerated train departing from Haydarpaşa derailed in Pamukova. It was announced that 36 people died and 79 were injured in the accident.

The accident happened at the 183rd kilometer. The penalty was imposed if all the machinists exceeded the limits before the accelerated train. However, the right to exceed the limits by 10 percent in the accelerated train was granted. In other words, the mechanic had the right to enter the bend, which should enter at a speed of 70 km, at a speed of 88 km. 10 machinists from Ankara and Istanbul were initially assigned for the accelerated train. However, these highly experienced mechanics did not want the high-speed train because it was risky. Therefore, the “tourniquet” system was introduced with a method that was applied for the first time on the day of the accident. 65 machinists were asked to use the accelerated train to watch. The mechanic who used the high-speed train that day was the first time this time.
