Drilling in BBT Railway Tunnels Has Started

Drilling in BBT Railway Tunnels has begun: Brenner Base Tunnel (BBT Tunnel) A tunnel planned to be built in the middle of the 2200 km long Berlin Palermo railway. When the railway commences commercial operation, the journey time between these two cities will be reduced to 2.5 hours.

The BBT 64, which will be the longest underground railway connection when completed, is a tunnel consisting of two kilometers of km-long tunnel. Each one will be of a width of 8,1 m and the tubes will be at a distance of 70 m from each other. Each tube will have a single skin line and the trains will therefore operate in one direction.
