Last week, ROKETSAN officially Youtube channel, a video has been shared on 21-22 December 2018 in place of Turkey's Technology Platform shot test. The followers of the subject will remember that this test was announced at the opening ceremony of ROKETSAN Satellite Launch Space Systems and Advanced Technologies Research Center.

TP-21 was the first probe rocket to reach 22 km + altitude between 2018-100 December 0.2.3 and to do so in a controlled manner. In fact, space was reached for the first time in 2017 in the probe rocket studies that started at ROKETSAN. The TP-130-0.2 probe rocket, which reaches an altitude of 2 km, is known to be solid fuel.

MUFS - National Satellite Launch System

As the name suggests, the main purpose of the MUFS Project is to carry and drop the satellite, called payload, into orbit. In the videos shared by ROKETSAN, it is seen that the probe rockets can approach up to 4.5 Mach speed. But it is known that higher speeds are required to hold onto orbit. For this reason, different developments are required in order for the carrier rocket to leave its payload to orbit.

The statements made are that at the end of 2020, a test shot will be made for 135 km, where avionic systems related to thrust, maneuver control and thrust management systems will be tested. It is known that this firing test will take place with a 0.1 probe rocket (photographed at the Space Systems and Advanced Technologies Research Center, which President Erdogan opened on August 30 Victory Day).

In the continuation of the program, firstly, 2023 km is targeted with 100 kg payload until 300, and then 100 kg load is planned to reach an altitude of 400 km in 2026. ROKETSAN General Manager Murat İincci explained that there are investments in the development of high-end engines for higher targets in the next few years.

The MUFS Project, which is carried out under the leadership of SSB and under the main contractor of ROKETSAN, is developed under subcontracting of various institutes, universities and national stakeholder companies.

Within the scope of R&D studies carried out within the scope of MUFS, many important sub-systems such as high-capacity hydrogen battery, spindle global positioning system receiver and fiber optic rotation meter were developed nationally.

Where are rockets launched from?

So far, all of the firing tests have taken place at the test center in Sinop. The important thing here is that the rocket we want to send is very gradual. Due to the high altitude we want to send the rocket to, the rocket's tiers should not fall into the settlement. But when we look at the geographical location of Turkey it seems that it is possible to a certain orbit. At least for now. We say now, because Turkey is not the only country suffering from this condition. For example, in launches from the Palmachim Base in Israel, the rocket ranks fall on the lands of countries that do not have good relations with Israel. In order to prevent this, launches from the Palmachim Base usually take place in the opposite (retrograde) way to the Earth's orbit and the tiers fall into the Mediterranean. Or these stages are lowered in a controlled manner, as SpaceX does. If we examine the Japanese Space Agency as a different solution to the issue, some of their launches take place over the ramps built on the ship.

Turkey, with various alternatives in this regard. Description excitement of the launch issues raised in the territory of Turkey is too big. I do not have the necessary knowledge on the subject but which can benefit from the island or from the Mediterranean Sea about it, think about the one Turkey has the rights'm very excited. Of course, it is discussed how possible in the short term and how healthy it is in the long term. Nevertheless, the work of the research to be performed when a defined space with access from Turkey and I think the new color will become. Although these regions are currently in conflict, they should definitely be evaluated in this respect and a new dimension should be added to the agreements.

Can the skill gained with MUFS be used in air defense?

When the shared video is examined, a technology that gives the rocket high maneuverability is also used, which is often seen in hit-to-kill missiles (destroying the target by colliding head-on) and called PIF-PAF (this designation is used by the EUROSAM company for Aster missiles. looks. Hit-to-kill is very important for the destruction of the target in ballistic missile defense. After the part called the booster leaves the missile, the missile should direct the reinforcement rocket well to reach the target and successfully carry out the destruction in this way. Of course, this technology has serious differences in air defense systems exposed to high g force and rockets carrying satellites. However, this capability gains importance at the point of technological gain.

Turkey with matters of this study need to be considered here is far from just a strategy of targeting the missile development and production. The reason for the issue of missiles is that it is possible and logical to use the developed and learned technology for different purposes.

Although the military use of space & satellite projects has been at the forefront, it is obvious that this will / should change with the establishment of the Turkish Space Agency. I would like to state that the images obtained from the RASAT satellite are open to civilian use. Or GÖKTÜRK-2 data can be obtained from the Reconnaissance Satellite Command.

In the recent Izmir earthquake, it is possible and safe to create a map with satellite images for disaster management and make damage assessment. The launch will take place by the end of November will be eligible Turkey Turksat 5A satellite orbit at 31 degrees east. In addition, there will be improvements in the service of data obtained in military / civilian use.
