İBB completed the first phase of Seymen Landfill Gas Energy Production Facility, one of the projects that had been stopped in the previous period, and put it into operation. The facility, which was built with a total investment of 130 million liras, will meet the annual electricity needs of 500 thousand houses when all stages are operational. The facility, which contributes to the Turkish economy, which is foreign-dependent in energy, started to produce electricity, and firstly, IMM President Ekrem İmamoğluannounced on their social media accounts. In his message, he said, "When all is finished, the world's largest facility producing electricity from landfill gas will be in Istanbul."

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) commissioned the first phase of Seymen Landfill Gas Power Generation Facility. In the facility, which both protects the nature and contributes to the economy by converting the gases accumulated in the wastes into energy, gas engines were activated for electricity generation. The electricity produced was also sold. Regarding the facility that will meet the electricity needs of hundreds of thousands of houses when it reaches full capacity, the President of IMM Ekrem İmamoğluannounced the developments on their social media accounts with the following statements:

“We launched the first phase of the Seymen Landfill Gas Energy Production Facility, one of the discontinued investments, with an investment of 130 million TL. When it is completely finished, the largest facility producing electricity from landfill gas will be in Istanbul. All standing projects will come alive one by one. "

TOTAL CAPACITY WILL REACH 90 MEGAVATA

Currently, an area of ​​30 hectares is reserved for waste storage in the Seymen Landfill Gas Energy Production Facility, located in the landfill area managed by İSTAÇ and operated by Istanbul Enerji AŞ. The work on 20 hectares of this area, where gas was collected simultaneously, was completed and put into operation. By the end of the year, another 10 hectares of land will be used for energy production. The facility will serve with a capacity of 20 megawatts. When the works are completed, a total of 130 hectares of land will be stored in Seymen and electricity will be produced from landfill gas. The total capacity will reach 90 megawatts. When the project is completed, 45 thousand cubic meters of landfill gas will be collected per hour. Thus, it will be the project with the highest amount of landfill gas from a single source in the world.

In the first phase of the facility, which started serving Istanbul, there are 14 collectors, 1100 meters of DN1000 perimeter, 168 measurement points, 18 condensate tanks, 2700 meters of horizontal channels. Also in the facility, there are 2 valve rooms, 2200 meters of air water line, 330 meters of embankment construction, 18 garbage channels, 180 meters of rain set, 600 meters of drainage line and gas outlet. At the end of the project, the equipment to be located on the site will be 125 collectors, 4500 meters perimeter line, 1120 measurement points, 47 thousand meters of horizontal canals, 24 valve rooms, 23 thousand meters of air water line, 14 thousand 600 meters of garbage canals. The pipe length to be used in all field productions will reach 150 thousand meters.

IT WILL MEET THE ANNUAL ELECTRICITY REQUIREMENT OF 500 THOUSAND HOUSES

Today, when the world turns towards renewable energy sources against the threat of global warming, M. Aslan Değirmenci, General Manager of Istanbul Enerji A.Ş.

“When this facility reaches a capacity of 90 megawatts, it will be the largest facility in the world producing electricity from landfill gas at a single point. The biggest purpose of this facility is to meet the electricity needs of the city by generating electricity from the landfill gas accumulated in the waste collected in Istanbul and to provide this through alternative energy sources, namely renewable energy sources. All the garbage of the European Side of Istanbul is now coming here. Approximately 11-12 tons of garbage is collected in this area per day. We take the gas in this garbage through the main line here, pass it through certain processes and separate the harmful particles in it, and transfer it to our main production building. When we reach 90 megawatts, there will be a facility that will meet the electricity needs of approximately 500 thousand households in the districts of Silivri, Beylikdüzü, Arnavutköy, Büyükçekmece, Esenyurt and Çatalca. This means that; As a country that is dependent on foreign countries in energy, we will be meeting the annual energy needs of 500 thousand households from this facility.
