Fortieth customer for Siemens locomotive

The Rath Group and Siemens have signed a contract for the delivery of three Vectron multisystem (MS) locomotives. The locomotives are planned for freight service and will operate in Austria, the Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, the Netherlands, Poland and Slovakia. Delivery of the locomotives will begin in December 2018. The locomotives will be built at the Siemens factory in Munich-Allach. With this order, RTB Cargo, the freight transport arm of the Rath Group, will have its own multisystem fleet for the first time.

“The Rath Group is the fortieth customer for our Vectron platform. This success story underscores the quality and reliable service of our locomotives throughout Europe,” said Sabrina Soussan, CEO of the Siemens Mobility Division.

The locomotives for the Rath Group have a maximum output of 6,400 KW and a top speed of 160 km/h. The Vectron MS operates on 15 kV / 16.7 Hz, 25 kV / 50 Hz AC and 1.5 kV DC and 3 kV DC voltages and is equipped with national train control systems as well as the European Train Control System (ETCS).

Siemens has already sold the Vectron more than 700 times. The Vectron fleet in Europe has covered over 130 million kilometers in service so far. The Siemens locomotives are currently certified to operate in Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Switzerland and Turkey.
