Siemens To Prepare Line 4 Of The Paris Metro For Driverless Operation: French RATP has awarded a €70 million order to Siemens to prepare Line 4 of the Paris Metro for driverless operation. Siemens will install CBTC signalling and control systems at 27 stations of the line.

Jochen Eickholt, chief executive of Siemens Mobility, said: “Siemens has equipped about 300 route km worldwide with signalling technology for fully automatic operation, making it the market leader in this field. Automatic operation will enable Line 4 to offer a service interval of 85 seconds. This automatic control will reduce energy consumption by up to 15%.

Running north-south through the Paris, Line 4 links Porte de Clignancourt in the north of Paris and, once complete, Bagneux in the south. Work will be completed in 2022.
