Shonan Monorail’s train gets ready for its final journey :The Shonan Monorail Co.’s cherished 500-series train will reach the end of the line on June 26 with a program of special events to mark its final journey.

Passengers will be presented with special “koken” train tickets, and train buffs with be treated to a photo session.

On its last day, a 500-series train, which will be retired from its tracks, will depart Ofuna Station every 37 to 38 minutes, starting at 9:30 a.m. The last train will depart at 12:37 p.m.

The “koken,” train tickets printed on thick paper, will be presented to the first 1,000 passengers as a memento of the final run.

When the train makes the final departure, “children’s stationmasters” selected from the public will present flower bouquets to a driver and other officials.

The last train will complete its run at Shonan-Fukasawa Station, and after the passengers disembark, it will head to a rail yard. En route to the site, the train will stop at two spots, offering train buffs on the ground a last photo opportunity.

The 500-series train will be retired soon due to its dilapidated condition and the introduction of a new train model.
