Riyadh Metro Green Line Completes Tunneling and Presents Trainset Mock-Up :Arriyadh Development Authority (ADA) held a ceremony on 8 June to announce the completion of the Line 5 (Green Line) excavation work by the FAST consortium, led by Fomento de Construcciones y Contratas (FCC) and including Samsung C&T, Alstom, Typsa, Strukton, Setec, Atkins and Freyssinet.

His Royal Highness Prince Faisal bin Bandar bin Abdul Aziz, head of the Supreme Commission, announced that tunnel boring on the Green Line had been completed. Together with Transport Minister Suleiman Al Hamdan and other officials he witnessed the Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) known as San’ah make its final break in. The Riyadh Metro Project is using seven TBMs and this is the second TBM to complete excavation work.

During the site visit Prince Faisal personally inspected a tunnel and was briefed on the machinery and technology used.

Prince Faisal, who is also Chairman of the ADA, confirmed on the occasion that the project has reached 36% completion and stated: “We are proud of the accomplished works.”

In addition to the completion of tunneling work, a full scale mock-up of the Alstom Metropolis trainsets, to be delivered by the FAST consortium, was presented.

The Green Line runs underground along King Abdulaziz Road for a length of 12.9 km. It has 11 underground stations and two transfer stations with the Red and Blue Lines.
