Mexico MRT – Rehabilitation of Line 12

Mexico MRT – Rehabilitation of Line 12 :SYSTRA, through its local MEXISTRA subsidiary, provided assistance to the contracting authority on the rehabilitation of Line 12 of the Mexico metro. Commissioned in 2013, Line 12 had to close 11 of its 20 stations to repair the viaduct section.

After carefully analysing all the dysfunctions, SYSTRA went on to supervise an 18-month rehabilitation programme. The line was reopened at the end of 2015.

SYSTRA and the Mexico metro authorities have been working together for many years, from the 1960s through to the mid noughties on a wide variety of projects from the production of designs to providing technical support and managing the construction of city’s metro lines.

SYSTRA’s role:

Under this contract, MEXISTRA was responsible for:

Compiling all the studies associated with track elements
Producing technical specifications for maintenance and engineering operations
Supervising rehabilitation work
Checking standards and procedures compliance
Performing dynamic tests on the renovated infrastructure
Providing technical assistance to the contracting authority.

SYSTRA teams also devised solutions involving rolling stock, modifying wheel profiles and train suspension systems to help trains negotiate curves better without affecting operating speeds. SYSTRA also audited the tunnel on Line 12, as it will require rehabilitating.
