Work on both metro projects will start in the next financial year (2017-2018) and is currently expected to be completed in four years.

According to Narottam Mishra “the Metro Rail Project will be financed 20% by the Centre and 20% by the state government.” The remaining 60% would be funded by various agencies.

“Initially, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) had ‘in-principle’ given the nod to provide the loan for Bhopal Metro project. But, JICA didn’t move ahead later on,” according to Narottam Mishra. Bhopal metro company may therefore seek funding from other financial institutions.

Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Company has been constituted to implement the metro rail projects.
