Dubai Metro Green Line extension plan due in 2017 :Work on the extension of Dubai Metro’s Green Line is expected to commence in 2017, a senior official from Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) said.

Abdul Mohsen Ibrahim Younes, CEO of RTA’s Rail Agency, said the 20.6km extension will begin in Dubai’s Al Jaddaf area, and extend to Acaademic City.

He continued: “The Green Line extension will start from existing Al Jaddaf station to Academic City.
“It will feature a rail line of 20.6km and 11 stations both underground and above ground.

“This extension will serve urban developments such as Ras Al Khor industrial area, International City and Silicon Oasis,” he added.

Dubai Metro’s Green Line currently comprises 18 stations, of which 12 are elevated and six underground.

It also includes the Union Square and Khalid Bin Waleed underground stations, where the Metro’s Green and Red Lines converge.

Remarking on construction work for Route 2020, Younes added: “Work will commence soon as the route as it has to get ready before 2020.

“We are currently evaluating bids,” he continued.

Route 2020 is the extension of Dubai Metro’s Red Line, Emirates 24×7 reported.
