Today marks the opening of the second portion(2). Alstom supplied, for the entire line, a traction system and Train Control Monitoring System (TCMS) for 144 metro cars following a contract awarded by Qingdao
Metro Group Co. Ltd. in December 2011.
The first metro line in Shandong Province, Qingdao Line 3 is now 25 km long with 22 stations. It links Qingdaoâs two railway stations; Qingdao Railway Station, located in the southwest, with Qingdao North Railway Station. The line passes through several important landmarks along Qingdaoâs coastal area, including Huiquan Plaza, Zhongshan Park, Taipingjiao Park and 4 May Plaza.
Alstom supplied the OptONIX system, which includes traction inverters, motors, auxiliary converters and a train monitoring system. The OptONIX system is designed to improve operational performance and reduce life cycle costs by using regenerative electrical braking. The OptONIX system is extended by a TCMS, which interfaces, controls and monitors train equipment and processes, allowing full system integration.

With its advanced international technology and proximity to its customers, Alstom is looking forward to continuing to support Shandong in its economic and infrastructure growth and social development,â said Ling Fang, Managing Director of China & East Asia, Alstom.
The OptONIX traction systems as well as the TCMS for Qingdao Line 3 were manufactured by Alstomâs local joint venture (JV), Shanghai Alstom Transport Electrical Equipment Co. Ltd. (SATEE), with motors manufactured by another Alstom local JV: Xiâan Alstom Yongji Electric Equipment Co. (XAYEECO).
