The Longest ETCS Railway Line In Europe

The Longest ETCS Railway Line In Europe: Infrabel activated ETCS on the final section of the 429-kilometre route in Antwerp and Ottignies. Infrabel claims to be the longest conventional ETCS railway in Europe. The final sections to go live were Antwerp North to Mortsel and Ottignies to Namur.

Currently more than 1,200 kilometres of main line railway, around 20 per cent of the network, has been equipped with the in-cab signalling system. By the end of 2022, Infrabel plans to have invested €130 million installing ETCS across the entire Belgian rail network. The milestone also marked the completion of Belgium’s portion of ERTMS Corridor C, which extends south of Athus to Basel and Lyon.
