UAE has completed  nearly half of GCC Rail :Contractors were asked to resubmit their bids for Stage Two, which covers the link from Saudi Arabia to the existing line between Ruwais and Tarif, before moving through Abu Dhabi to Jafza in Dubai.

According to The National, “contractors initially submitted bids to build Stage Two in December 2012”, but the tender was cancelled by Etihad Rail during the summer.

Fresh tenders were later issued containing for packages, but they did not include the Al Ain section, which is to link with Oman.

Salem Al Zaabi, the director general of the UAE’s Federal Transport Authority, said that contrary to rumours, “there is no cancellation of the link … It will be tendered and will be announced at the right time”.
The UAE has completed 246km of its total 684km section of the GCC Rail network.

A meeting it due to be held between rail officials from all six member states, with the regional network facing delays.

Al Zaabi said: “As far as the UAE [is concerned], we are aligned with the GCC project and I think we will hopefully stick with the schedule.

“We will see what the other countries will present,” the report added.
