BVG Orders New Trams For Berlin: BVG (Berlin’s public transport operator) has a new agreement with Bombardier. The agreement contains of a new order to Bombardier for new low-floor light rail vehicles.

BVG used an option which is worth €176 million for 47 more Flexity trams for the German capital Berlin. With this order city’s fleet will be 189 vehicles.

BVG ordered four pre-series trams in 2006 as part of a framework order for upto 206 vehicles. Following a succesful experience, the operator ordered 99 trams in 2009. And after that new 39 more units ordered in 2012.

BVG also plans to extend 20 existing trams from five to seven-car vehicles. Because city’s demand for trams are growing and BVG needs to meet this demand.
